Important News Regarding The Ontario Weather Page

It is with a sad heart that I am announcing that The Ontario Weather Page will be shutting it's doors on March 31, 2002.

After serving the people of Ontario and Canada for 5 years, this site has gotten so large that I cannot support it properly. The financial costs alone are costing me a large chase vacation every year just to keep it up and running. Advertising revenues after Sept 11, 2024 and the lack of people checking out advertisers on the pages dried up any monies that helped to support the costs of running the servers and internet connections that are required to make this site state-of-the-art. I kept hoping that the $120.00 dollars a month I need to pay for costs would sometime be met but it never happened. Thus, I am going to have to close the site down. (However, if anyone wants to buy the domain and all the scripts etc, I would part with it for $10,000.00 . I have put close to 4000 hours into it. chuckling)

I started this site with the intention of supporting my weather addiction and learning how to program new and inventive web products that no one else had. I achieved this goal. However, this distracted me from my primary goal of forecasting weather and chasing and spotting severe storms and tornadoes. It really did not bother me as I got to chase when I needed to. Just the money used to keep it running lead to this decision.

Some of the most inventive programs I developed were:

1) Bringing new weather warning technology to the net via text, graphics and email
2) Total road conditions sections to help through our winters.
3) Really there are too many to list as much of the stuff I did did not exist on the net.

The best thing about it was I got to talk with thousands of people in Ontario and meet with quite a few people. Hopefully I help you get the information you needed to keep safe. I want to thank each and every one of you for sending comments, suggestions and ideas to help expand the site to what it is today.

The best alternative source I can suggest is Environment Canada's Weather Site although The Weather Network offers some good products as well (Although neither offers what you are use to :(

I will still be on the net tracking weather and chasing and answering any questions that come my way. My new site will be www.tornadochaser.ca which will cover my chasing and have specialty weather information (although geared down from the old site) which will be online in the next few months with my lightning detection systems etc running.

My contact information will be as follows for those who wish to keep in contact.

Email: wxchaser@tornadochaser.ca (will be activate in April/use davepatrick@ontarioweather.com till then)
ICQ: 8986068
MSN Messenger : wwxchaser@hotmail.com (this is not an active email account)

I wish you all well in your endeavours and thanks for the support over the years.

Dave Patrick & JD and Cleo

P.S. You can press the back button to get to the page you originally came here to. This message will not be announce again to you as I have set a cookie (the first one I have ever programmed on this site) to prevent this (and I hate autoredirects and pop-ups)
