Canada Warnings Page For Ontario For Test/Check
Updated
Problems/Progress/Changes:
- Nov 17: I have updated this page to cover winter watches and warnings that will arise in Southern Ontario. This is still in the beta testing stage but I am hoping it works correctly and will monitor it for accuracy.
- Sept 14: After an interesting talk with Environment Canada, I am pretty sure that the Southern Ontario warnings page will have to be reworked over the winter to improve on some coding issues on my end that will better interpret EC's watches and warnings. Although this program worked pretty well, it can and will be improved. I also plan to expand it into Eastern Ontario for the 2001 severe weather season. I am also planning on upgrading the warnings page to cover winter warnings but this will take some time as I have not archived any of those statements and will have to see what format is used. Thanks again to all those that helped out with this little project. Dave
- June 14: I have now set a time limit of 8 hours on all statements/watches and warnings. If they are older than 8 hours, I have made the program ignore them. This will solve all the problems dealing with old statements and ended statements stuck in the cache. If I find that the warnings and statements are having problems in my coding, I will have to redo the program from scratch and design it different (at this time I am pretty sure it can be done but a very long process). Hope that explains the issues. I will continue to monitor this page and respond to your questions or comments until I can guarantee a 95% + validity rate. Dave
- I have had many people send me e-mails that warnings are showing when they have ended and advisories are still valid when they have been cancelled. I will try and explain the problems I am working on. It seems that E.C. has had a problem with issuing warnings but not ending them properly and then ending warnings/advisories but for the wrong regions. Needless to say, this screwed up a few things with my program. I have also had problems where the special weather statements go on forever. Working on it.
- Have fixed the problem with Simcoe County displaying the watches but not the warnings due to inconsistencies in header languages.
- Have redone the image to include the actual warning types in the image and date/time stamp it so you know how current it is and if it resides in the cache.
- Cleaned up the image so that the counties are filled properly with the current watch or warning.
- Added Air Quality and Humidex Advisories that I forgot about and changed the image and colors for it.
