Lightning Shots |

|
These are some of my lightning shots taken from various
chases over the past years. All of these shots were taken with a camcorder on a
tripod. These are some shots from a tornadic thunderstorm that was dying just south of Fergus, Ontario on April 16, 1998. No tornado was reported or seen. These shots were taken during a 10 minute period around 8:15pm. The last shot was taken in Chillicothe, Missouri on May 22, 1998. These are some lightning shots that I recorded southeast of Wichita, Kansas on May 13, 1997. This was the first severe thunderstorm that I forecasted and drove to intercept. I dropped softball size hail in some areas (thankfully not on or near me). The reason for the lightning shots only is I do not chase at night (except for these types of shots) as it is very easy to get disoriented and lost in heavy rain/hail and put you and others in danger. These are some assorted lightning shots taken from various angles. This is a complete lightning shot from start to finish over a period of 1 second captured from my video. Increments are approx. 0.105 secs. Taken during the above Wichita, Kansas chase. These are 3 shots taken southwest of Salina, Kansas 3 days later during a severe storm outbreak. I had thought I had the camcorder off but was surprised that it was not. Taken over 3 tenths of a second.
