The Air Quality Index (AQI) is a rating scale for outdoor air in Ontario. The lower the AQI, the better the air quality. Based on data from its network of monitoring stations, an AQI number is reported to all major media outlets by the ministry three times daily for 27 locations across Ontario. Six key air pollutants are monitored by the ministry as part of the AQI: sulphur dioxide, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, total reduced sulphur compounds, carbon monoxide and suspended particulates. These pollutants were chosen because they have an adverse effect on humans and the environment at high levels. Choose the city you wish to view! |
